Quick Tip – Homemade Oatmeal bath; 1 minute prep time.

I’m not one of those moms who keeps the Aveeno oatmeal bath around the house. It’s just not in my price range to keep around when I never know when or if I will need it. If you’re like me and need to use the oatmeal from your pantry follow these steps:

You will need:

An old sock (Not of the sweaty or holey variety!)

Oatmeal (Any brand but flavorless is probably best.)

Step one:
Pour about a cup of oatmeal in to the sock.
Step two:
Tie a knot in the sock right above the top of the oatmeal.
Step three:
Draw your bath water.
Step four:
Soak the sock in the bath.
Step five:
Squeeze the sock to extract the “milky” water in to the bath faster.

Repeat step five until you have the desired amount of oatmeal “milk” in the bath. I usually use a cup to run the water over my child. If it won’t further irritate the skin you can use the sock to dab the “milk” directly on the skin. You can also squeeze the sock directly over their skin to allow the highest concentration of oatmeal “milk” on their body.

I don’t recommend washing off the oatmeal. Leaving the residue on their skin will allow it to continue to soothe them once out of the bath.

These kind of baths always helped my skin calm down from my sometime violent itching episodes, because of my lifelong skin imbalances; nowadays, I just eat it and it works wonders for me! Thanks for sharing the ways to cleanse the body through a high-quality oatmeal bath concoction:))

You’re welcome! My daughter had an allergic reaction a few days ago and we had to do this for her. It truly does help soothe the skin.

We have been doing this with one of my kids who has really bad dry itchy skin, this past week. I give her the bath every other day and let her scrub her body with the sock, and her skin has improved SOOO Much!!! Thank you so much for this handy tip!
