DIY Sweetheart Valentines

My 8 year old daughter decided she wanted to hand make her Valentines for her classroom party this year. We decided to base our design off of the classic Necco Sweethearts. We hope you enjoy this simple DIY project. My daughter and I had a fun time working on these together.

Supply List:
Construction Paper
Glitter Glue
Glue Stick
Heart Shaped Stencils (If you prefer you can make them.)
Hole Puncher
Pre-Cut Foam Hearts (If you prefer you can make them.)
Ribbon
Scissors

 Skill Level: Grade School

Instructions: Making your Handmade Sweetheart Valentine’s Day Cards is very simple. Here are two style to select from:

#1 Pre-cut your hearts. You will need small, medium, and large. The small and mediums hearts are cut out of construction paper. The large hearts are made of out foam.
#2 Write your Authentic Necco Conversation Sweethearts Candy Messages on the smallest heart. (See list below.)
#3 Glue the small hearts to the medium hearts.
#4 Glue the combined hearts to the large heart.
#5 For style one use your hole puncher to put a whole in the top center of the large heart. For style two follow the symmetry of the large heart punching holes around the outer edge of the large heart.
#6 Use glitter glue to decorate your hearts.
#7 Allow to dry.
#8 For style one tie a ribbon through the center hole. For style two weave the ribbon through the holes, leaving enough slack at the top to tie a hook.

VERY cute and VERY sweet. I remember when I was a kid we made Valentine’s Day bags and hung them in the classroom and everyone delivered valentines to each other…. aaahhh, it is nice to be old sometimes!

Thank you, we had a long debate over the pros and cons of buying store bought vs hand making the cards this year. I’m glad she decided to hand make them. They are doing a card exchange and she will be use a shoe box to collect her cards in. (It was a DIY project from a few years ago. She’s hoping to win a price for best Valentin’es Day box.)
