Through BzzAgent I was selected to participate in a free sampling of General Mills new Fiber One protein cereal. I was sent two free boxes and coupons to share with my family and friends. This blog is dedicated to the Fiber One protein cereal Maple Brown Sugar flavor.
I’ve been sampling the maple brown sugar box of Fiber One protein cereal first. For some reason when I looked at the packaging I anticipated that the cereal would be a flake, it’s not. The main texture of this Fiber One cereal is similar to an old childhood favorite Honey Smacks. The softer texture of the cereal is complemented with the crunchiness of the granola and real pecans. Admittedly it took me awhile to adjust to the texture only because I had a preconceived idea of the texture that I had to get past. I would probably enjoy this cereal more if it featured flakes over the puffed wheat like texture but this cereal has grown on me. My initial texture rating was 3 stars but after eating this cereal several more times I’ve decided it is a 4 star texture rating.
The flavor is exactly what I’ve come to expect from the Fiber One brand. I’ve been eating various versions of their cereal for a long time now, with my favorite being the ever elusive Caramel Delight. (Which is no longer on their website and I’ve not seen it locally) When I can’t find Caramel Delight I normally buy Honey Clusters or Honey Squares. As you can tell I’m partial to sweeter tasting cereals and Fiber One protein Maple Brown Sugar is on par with my favorite flavors. If don’t enjoy sweetened cereal you probably won’t enjoy this flavor. It’s definitely target towards people who prefer a sweeter cereal.
I don’t eat my cereal in the morning like most people; I eat my cereal at night as a dessert substitute. I will either enjoy a bowl of cereal or I will mix the cereal in to my yogurt. This has helped me watch my calories intake and helps me with my food cravings. One serving of Fiber One protein maple brown sugar has 220 calories. One full serving is almost too much for my needs so I typically will eat half a serving or in my yogurt I use about 1/4 of a serving.
One thing I really like about Fiber One is that it aids in my ‘tummy troubles’. One reason I really liked the flavor Caramel Delight is because it has 35% of your daily fiber. The Maple Brown Sugar only has 20% which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I prefer a higher fiber content in my cereal and the 35% mark was ideal for me. I do not eat enough fiber throughout the day so I like to get most of it in my cereal. I would be happy if the Fiber One Maple Brown Sugar offered a higher fiber content but I also like that their cereals offer a variety of options. Their cereals have various levels of fiber in them making something available for everyone. The lower fiber content in this flavor wouldn’t prevent me from buying it again.
